  • After acquiring 10% of the capital of the company Imotion Analytics last March, Renfe takes a step further and increases its shareholding by another 10%.
  • It is the startup company selected among the startups participating in Renfe’s TrenLab program.

Renfe increases its capital in the startup Imotion Analytics, after acquiring 10% of the same last March, which represents a new investment reaching a final stake of 20% of the startup, whose technological base is Artificial Intelligence. Thus, Renfe will be part of the Administrative Body.

Renfe has selected Imotion Analytics after an intense evaluation process, carried out in the first half of 2022, of the startups participating in all the calls of TrenLab, Renfe’s global startup acceleration program.

This investment goes beyond mere financing as it represents an important step for the railway company towards what is called “Corporate Venture Capital”, a hybrid innovation model in which a large company invests in a startup, with the objective of accessing its innovation and technology, as well as to support its growth and development.

Both companies have been working to create synergies in a context of exploring new technologies and business models, attracting talent and innovation.

TrenLab, innovation laboratory
Trenlab is Renfe’s global startup acceleration program. It is the hub for open innovation in the mobility, transportation and logistics sector. We work closely with startups and Renfe subsidiaries to accelerate the best projects and generate business opportunities together.

In this context, we are looking for disruptive technological solutions that contribute to Renfe’s transformation and differentiation by solving its business challenges.

After four successful editions, the fifth edition already has the five startups chosen to get on the Renfe innovation train and enter a six-month personalized acceleration program to develop a pilot of their project.

About Imotion Analytics
Imotion Analytics was one of the startups participating in the second call of TrenLab.

It was created with the aim of being a benchmark in solutions based on multisector artificial vision, using this technology and proprietary algorithms to let customers know what is happening in their business. In this sense, Imotion’s technology can detect human bodies and all kinds of objects, extracting information ranging from gender and age recognition.

Its technology is even capable of detecting and analyzing the mood and emotions of the customer, being able to detect and predict human behavior.

During the period of participation in TrenLab’s acceleration program, it worked on the implementation of its solutions in stations and trains. They are currently working actively with Renfe’s Safety Management.
