V TrenLab Call for startups

Our challenges
Digitalization of security systems

We aim to continue fostering the development of the most revolutionary technological projects focused on driving the digitalization of Renfe’s security systems.

What we’re looking for?

  • Development of new algorithms for data extraction (train license plate, passenger counts, graffiti detection, etc.) by applying AI to the video stream from IP cameras.
  • Development of a platform for predictive maintenance management of security systems, allowing for the collection of technical data from security devices and the optimization of their maintenance.
  • Generation of 3D models from photos and videos for the study and analysis of critical infrastructure, terrain, environmental monitoring, or infrastructure maintenance.
  • Platform for automatic detection of relevant events published through social networks that affect security aspects such as alerts, demonstrations, fires, etc.
  • Development of a CCTV platform for integrating other video capture sources (smartphones, indoor drones, robots, etc.) into the existing system for monitoring in control centers.
Virtual reality training

We are seeking to develop a virtual reality tool that integrates training needs in driving, digitizing real infrastructure environments and specific vehicles. This tool will allow training in situations and skills necessary to complement safety training for driving personnel.

What we’re looking for?

  • All solutions based on virtual reality and digitization of real environments that can address the challenge.

Industry 5.0

We are looking for innovative technological projects in the field of railway manufacturing and maintenance, aimed at digitization and the incorporation of new Industry 5.0 technologies (IoT, Big Data, asset management, process digitization, augmented reality, additive manufacturing, computer vision, etc.).

What we are looking for?

  • Health check systems for vehicles, referring to comfort, video, Wi-Fi, or any other component, through QR codes or any other type of code, that passengers can report.
  • Solutions that enable the calculation of a vehicle’s “health” and predict potential breakdowns through any mobile device.
  • Solutions that allow for the management and traceability of repairable and non-repairable parts of all rolling stock through process digitization throughout the lifecycle of these parts.
  • Systems that allow for tracking the activity history of a vehicle through its UIC (International Union of Railways) numbering.
  • Implementation solution for a control center for transferring information between systems.
  • Interactive inspection systems via mobile devices that automate the manual inspection conducted by technicians.
  • Digitization of inspection forms.
  • Solutions that facilitate data capture by operators in production processes (maintenance, inspection forms, controls, etc.) through voice recognition technologies, data capture via cognitive automation, robotic process automation, etc.
Metaverse in mobility

We aim to be the first European railway operator exploring the possibilities of the metaverse applied to the mobility sector, seeking to develop the first use cases applied to transportation with the goal of examining its potential and evaluating the balance between the physical and virtual worlds.

What we are looking for?

  • Virtual environments creation to simulate trains and train stations
  • ENG Desarrollo de herramientas de colaboración y comunicación en tiempo real para permitir a los usuarios interactuar entre sí y con el operador ferroviario.
  • Metaverse-based solutions to enhance the traveler experience.
Fleet optimization

We are looking for technological solutions that enable better optimization of the rolling stock fleet to improve efficiency and offer the best possible service to our customers.

What we are looking for?

  • Therefore, significant resources are dedicated to working on the optimization of the fleet in order to carry out effective network and transport service planning.

Ecological transportation

In order to continue being the most environmentally friendly mode of passenger transportation, we need solutions that contribute to enhancing our leadership, in line with our strategic plan: promoting the use of public transportation, new models that manage to mitigate environmental impact, systems that contribute to energy transition (green hydrogen, natural gas, biomethane…), and new sustainable and ecological materials for passenger trains.

What we are looking for?

  • Solutions that promote the use of public transportation for daily commutes.
  • Solutions to help purify and clean the air in commuter subway stations that contribute to improving the health and well-being of travelers and workers.
  • Solutions that allow us to involve and raise awareness among customers about reducing their carbon footprint, not only during the train journey, but also throughout their entire trip.
  • Technical solutions to improve the energy efficiency of trains.
  • Development of technologies that enable cleaner and more efficient propulsion systems.
